Pink eye is a condition largely caused by infection.
An ocular infection carries high potential for rapid and irreversible vision loss. Other effects include permanent corneal scarring and even corneal perforation. Speed and scope of treatment is critical in managing ocular infections.
A line of solutions called topical fluoroquinolones was introduced in the early 1990s and became the leader in ophthalmic antibiosis.
The fluoroquinolones effectively inhibit the function of crucial bacterial enzymes involved in cellular replication. Essentially, these medications prevent the bacterial colony from replicating, resulting in rapid death of the invading organism.
VIGAMOX®, produced by Alcon, is a new generation drug aimed at the ocular bacteria eradication.
Do not wear contact lenses while using VIGAMOX® solution. Patients should not touch the bottle tip to any surface to avoid the risk of contamination.
This product should not be taken by patients with a sensitivity or allergy to its ingredients. Safety and efficacy have not been determined in children under age one. Caution should be used when administering this drug to pregnant or nursing women. The most common side effect of VIGAMOX® solution is decreased visual acuity, but patients may also experience burning or stinging, red or itchy eyes, or rash, as well as other effects. If you experience any of these symptoms contact your doctor. For full U.S. prescribing information, see the product insert below.
