Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)

Pink eye (conjunctivitis) manifests itself through a redness or irritation of the membranes on the inner part of the eyelids and the membranes (conjuctiva) covering the whites of the eyes.

This is a reaction to various bacteria, viruses, allergy agents, or underlying diseases within the body. While viral conjunctivitis affects only one eye causing excessive watering, bacterial, allergic, and giant papillary conjunctivitis affect both eyes causing heavy discharge.

Of course, preventing pink eye is the best treatment. Personal hygiene and anti-alergy measures can help prevent or mitigate pink eye conditions. Other treatment may include various antibiotic eyedrops to alleviate bacterial conjunctivitis, whereas antihistamine allergy pills or eyedrops may help control allergic conjunctivitis symptoms.
