Astigmatism Correction

Skip Navigation Links

Astigmatism is a refractive error in which light rays focus in front and beyond the retina thus blurring and distorting vision for both near and far objects.

Astigmatism may happen with near- and far-sightedness. Various techniques exist for astigmatism correction such as implant procedures and monovision. They allow our patients to free themselves from eyeglasses and contact lenses.

For patients with cataracts and astigmatism there is an assortment of solutions such as the AcrySof Toric lens, which corrects for both conditions simultaneously. AcrySof single-piece lenses are known for their stability in the capsular bag and ability to filter blue light. The AcrySof® IQ IOL lens is transparent yellow -- the color necessary to filter blue light which is believed to cause damage to the retina contributing to macular degeneration or loss of vision. The patented yellow tint does not alter the natural colors of the things you see or the quality of your vision.
