Implant Procedures
|
|
IOLs, or intraocular lens, require a short outpatient procedure during which we remove the eye’s natural lens affected by a cataract or presbyopia and replace it with an advanced biocompatible substitute.
We place the intraocular lens implant in the eye through a small, self-healing incision, and typically need to fold the intraocular lens implant to properly fit it through the incision. IOLs are designed to conform to the natural shape of the lens capsule which helps the lens stay stable and centered.
In most cases, patients should return for a follow-up visit within a day of receiving the intraocular lens implant and can resume some normal activities, including light work, watching television, and reading within a day of the surgery.
It is important to maintain your blood pressure and not let it rise since it may put pressure on your eye.
There are many types of IOL transplants available. You can review patient information for one of them, AcrySof® ReSTOR®. Its distinguishing characteristic is the ability to filter blue light which is damaging to the eye. The AcrySof IQ lens is transparent yellow which does not alter the natural colors of the things you see or the quality of your vision.
